The concept of school as a place to create specialists is a mistake. It was good for the industrial era, but not for the age of innovation,” Xavier Sala i Martín, professor of Columbia University tells VIA Empresa after giving a talk to pupils from the Escola Thau in Sant Cugat. They are pupils taking the subject of Entrepreneurship, an increasingly widespread trend that is also to be found in the Saló de l’Ensenyament which opened on Wednesday.
Addressing the pupils, Sala i Martín reminded them that “you have to prepare yourselves for professions of the future that still do not exist. To do this you will need curiosity; you have to constantly ask questions. And you have to be observant, once great ideas have been discovered they always seem obvious. Whoever comes up with the idea is someone who has been paying attention.” Ideas form the centre of the speech by the renowned economist, who talks to VIA Empresa about the growing presence of the economy and business in educational plans.
